At Shelter Studio we work with steel, stainless, aluminum, brass, copper, and alloys in between, at various thicknesses. Each one requires its own welding process. Some welding processes are simple, and some are very difficult, for me anyway. I’m not a master welder, and might never be one.
There was a time on a jobsite that I watched a welder TIG weld a stainless steel boiler pipe that was cracked on the underside, where it wasn’t visible. To see where he was welding he used a mirror, and he controlled the welder with his knee on a foot pedal. Imagine being skilled at a precision task; now imagine doing it backwards because you are looking at a mirror, while operating a machine with your knee. To make the scenario more daunting, the weld will need to hold out boiling oil.
Could I do that? Maybe with a bit of practice.
